META - 20,333 words

I had a marathon session this weekend. As of Thursday (yes, I'm counting Friday because it was Veteran's Day weekend and I had Friday off) I was very much behind, but tonight I ended up slightly over, at 20,333 words!

Yesterday I wrote more than 6,000 words, and today I did another 2,094.

Hot damn this is fun stuff! It's amazing to me how many surprises there are for me, even though I'm writing the thing. You'd think that my characters would be completely under my control, but sometimes they take twists and take on personality traits that I never expected when I started the story.

And the process of improvising the story, just trying to figure out "what comes next", means that subconscious ideas in my head manifest themselves as recurring themes in the story. That's another surprise for me - watching something implicit in my head become explicit on the page.

Anyway, next goal is the half-way mark, 25,000 words. With luck I should hit that before the 15th, but even if I'm right on time that means I'm no longer behind!
