Smacky’s mama

I realize I stopped Friday Cat Blogging a while ago. Mainly because my camera is teh suxxorz.

Tracy has revived the tradition with post about Snickers, her mama cat. Er, former mama cat – she had that “fixed”.

Just for reference, Snickers is Smacky’s mama.

Smacky not amused

It’s March, for crying out loud. What’s with this snow?

Smacky was outside last night. Around midnight he was anxious to get back inside. It was funny ’cause it seemed like he was giving me hell for all the cold, wet, white stuff outside.

He thinks he’s in charge of making me laugh and bugs, and I’m in charge of everything else. That includes weather. Obviously I’ve fallen behind in my duties.

Games with Smacky

There’s a spot in my kitchen, where, because the floor isn’t exactly level, I can kick a golf ball and have it roll back to me, pretty much.

I spent a half-hour last night doing that, while Smacky watched me in rapt fascination. If the ball went near him, he would reach out and smack-y it back to me. It was almost meditative.

It snowed in Portland last weekend. Within a day or two, it had warmed up to the point that all the snow had melted away.

That’s about as close as we get to a White Christmas ’round these parts.

But I’m glad Smacky got to play in the snow a little bit, while it was here. I remember him frolicking around, have a blast, jumping into the snow drifts… As seen below:

…oh, yeah, I remember now. He couldn’t wait to get back inside where it was warm. He hated the snow. My bad.

…and here’s a couple more of Smacky vs. the snow vs. the closed door to inside.

Only got one picture of Smacky this week… but I think it’s a good one.

Can you spot the hidden cat in this picture?

At least, Smacky thinks he’s hidden.

All I’ve got this week are pictures from my new sexy phone. Sorry for the lower resolution. Also, my camera was soaking in saline solution for an indeterminate period of time, so there might not be new pictures next week, either. Be ye warned.

Also, the subject has decided that laundry piles are the bestbestbest place to sleep, so these pictures might seem familiar…

…and here’s the FCB archives.

It’s winter. It’s cold and dark and raining like Hell outside. What’s a cat to do? He finds warm spots to lay down, falls asleep, and dreams of being even lazier than normal (as a friend told me…)

And what’s warmer than a pile of dirty laundry on top of the dryer?

… and the answer to the above question is: the human’s lap. Note that he’s laying on top of the cable I need to get the pictures off the camera. Yeah. I got some new scars for trying to get that out of there.

…and here’s a few more.

Friday Cat Blogging EARLY

Posting over the holiday weekend* will be spotty, since I’m going to be with my family in Lincoln City, a quaint seaside town with few, if any, 21st century conveniences like indoor plumbing and wireless internet connectivity.

So, I present my Friday Cat Blogging on Wednesday!

Smacky got to play outside in the sun this week. It may not look it from the pictures, but even in the sun it’s been cold. Luckily for Smacky he’s got a fur coat.

…and here’s some more!

*For all my international readers, this upcoming weekend marks the official start to the consumer-oriented shopping spree known as “the holidays”. After a traditional day of rest marked by incredible overeating and ritual family spats, Americans celebrate our exceptional wealth and sensitivity by spending money on anyone and everyone we can possibly label “friends and relatives”, gifts which are exchanged on the formerly pagan day marking the winter solstice. Happy Holidays!

Smacky slowed down long enough to pose for some pictures this morning. He’s also showing off his new red collar. He came back one night last week without his purple one and limping. The bum foot is better now, although I was worried for a bit. And a neighbor brought back his collar and tag. The collar was ruined but I’m glad I’ve got his tag.

Sorry for the out-of-focusness of several of these. My camera (an Olympus D-520) is several years old now, and doesn’t do so well with fast subjects or low light. Damn. Must be time to upgrade.

…and the others can be seen here.
