While grokking it's simplicity, I wonder if if the sections would better be labled:

"Animals", "Vegetables", and "Minerals"

Good suggestion. But, um, on second thought, no.

I don't think "Places" coresponds to either "Vegetables" or "Minerals". Likewise with "Things"...

And I'm still not sure where to put "Events" (like races) even though they're technically "Places", too, so that might be a separate category.
